    Embedded Update
The Freescale Abendseminare series is coming up in the next few months. Don’t miss your opportunity to experience this great event and learn about the latest developments in the embedded world. Read on for more information.

    Fresh ideas. Real Solutions.
What sets Quadros Systems apart from other embedded software providers? Those of you who have worked with RTXC products should already know this: we are not content with the ordinary but constantly strive to bring new approaches and better technology to our customers. The newest addition to the RTXC product family is a great example of this commitment. RTXC Quark networking software is the result of revolutionary approach in TCP/IP and UDP stack design. Read more about it below. And if you have not experienced the new VisualRTXC design tool, you owe it to yourself to find out why this could dramatically improve how you design embedded systems.

Read on below as we showcase eXtremeDB embedded database software from McObject and explain how an in-memory database can give you better control over your data. And last, we announce our support for processors based on the ARM Cortex-M3 core, and in particular, the Stellaris family from Luminary Micro.

As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions rtxc-io@quadros.com.

Micro-footprint Embedded Networking with No Compromises
    Introducing RTXCTM Quark TCP/IP Software

New Micro-Footprint Embedded Networking with No Compromises

The new generation of low-cost 32-bit processors comes with a price — less on-chip memory (and often no external bus). With RTXC Quark networking software, designing with limited memory just got a whole lot easier. This revolutionary software has been designed to operate not just comfortably, but screaming fast in a minimal RAM/ROM footprint.

Forget everything you thought you knew about embedded networking because RTXC Quark networking software is changing all of the rules. This micro-stack architecture is the result of a breakthrough in stack design. Quadros Systems took an entirely different path to engineering an embedded networking stack, creating a highly efficient, data-centric design. The efficient processing model and innovative structure provide the dual benefit of compact code size and lightning-fast packet handling.

This means dramatic advantages for resource-constrained systems:
-Lower RAM/ROM utilization — do more with less
-Rapid packet handling - avoid packet log jam
-Less CPU demand - that means more processor time for your application and reduced power consumption

RTXC Quark TCP/IP software is RFC-compliant for IPv4, with UDP, TCP, DHCP client, ICMP, ARP and IGMP. It is tightly integrated with the RTXC Quadros real-time operating system and takes full advantage of the high-efficiency kernel threads in RTXC/ss.

Speed Development and Improve the Reliability of Your Data Management
    eXtremeDB Embedded Database

Have you considered moving from homegrown data management code to a proven, off-the-shelf database system? When you need to roll out reliable embedded software quickly, it is hard to beat the advantages of commercial database software in reducing time-to-market and improving system reliability. Quadros Systems has partnered with McObject to provide an “in memory” database solution that is consistent with the attributes of the RTXC Quadros real-time operating system: small, extremely fast, and highly efficient. McObject’s eXtremeDB delivers faster embedded software performance, improved reliability, and a shorter development cycle – powerful benefits that are driving its adoption in data-hungry embedded devices like consumer electronics, industrial controllers, and telecom/netcom gear, among others.

McObject’s eXtremeDB: ‘In-Memory’ is the Fastest Possible Database
Looking for the fastest possible execution for embedded software? A database system hosted entirely in memory could be the answer? eXtremeDB in-memory embedded database system can reside in as little as 50 KB of ROM. And the streamlined, all-in-memory design eliminates disk access, caching and other overhead, resulting in lightning-fast data access, sorting and updates. Typical read and write accesses are at the level of a few microseconds, or less. The engine is reentrant, allowing for multiple execution threads, and eXtremeDB’s ‘real’ database features include support for transactions, multi-user concurrent access, and a high-level data definition language. In addition, eXtremeDB’s High Availability sub-system meets stringent fault tolerance demands.

Quadros Now Supports Stellaris Cortex-M3-based MCUs

Quadros Systems has extended its strong support for ARM-based microcontrollers to include the Luminary Micro Stellaris® family of microcontrollers (MCUs). Now, developers looking to move to the Stellaris family of processors can access the flexibility and power of the RTXC Quadros RTOS, VisualRTXC design tool, RTXCusb software, and the rest of the RTXC software family.

Luminary Micro has made a big impact on the embedded industry in a short time. They have aggressively staked out a strong position with a large family of 32-bit processors that are price-competitive with 8- and 16- bit MCUs. Quadros support for Stellaris microcontrollers is a logical extension of our expertise in ARM cores and gives our customers new and powerful hardware choices.
