EMBEDDED SOFTWARE ENGINEER, NETWORK COMMUNICATIONS

Job Description   
  • Take primary responsibility for providing continued improvements and sustaining engineering and porting of TCP/IP stack and related application protocols to new processors, including the necessary device drivers to support Ethernet and PPP protocols.
  • Work with customers to meet their special needs. Develop specifications, Statements of Work, Acceptance Test Procedures and other elements of the software development life cycle, as required.
  • Assist Marketing personnel in development of new product information
  • Provide Sales personnel with pre-sales support
  • Provide Customers with post-sales support as required

The Candidate

The successful candidate will

  • have a degree in Electrical Engineering, but a degree in Computer Science with documented experience with the TCP/IP and development of low-level device drivers may be an acceptable substitute.
  • have at least 3 years of applicable experience
  • must be a U.S. citizen, be able to obtain a US Passport, and be free to travel domestically and internationally

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Software engineering of embedded systems that incorporate network communications with TCP/IP and related applications.
  • Developing low-level device drivers for Ethernet, CAN, and various serial devices
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP internals along with related application protocols (HTTP, SNTP, FTP, TFTP, etc.) is highly desirable
  • Use and familiarity with multitasking RTOS products (RTXC, VxWorks, ThreadX, Nucleus, …), including configuration, build and deployment
  • Knowledge of and experience with one or more 16-/32-bit microcontroller, especially  ARM-based processors, including ARM7/9/Cortex
  • Expert C programming ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Preferences and Pluses

  • Experience with the RTXC Quadros RTOS
  • Background in development, verification and support of high reliability or safety critical embedded systems
  • Conversational fluency in at least one language other than English (German, French or Italian preferred)

Job Location

  • Houston, Texas-based engineering center
  • We are open to a telecommuting situation
